It is not hard to get health insurance in Germany. You need to know two things:
You can either have private health insurance or be part of the public health system. The majority of people are in the public system. Like any system, it has its faults, but it is recommended.
Which one should you choose?
Self-employed?
Careful! Private health insurance is often the choice of self-employed people. The simple reason for this is that the contribution you pay to the National Health Service rises according to how much you earn. There is a maximum, but sometimes earning €200 more a month can put you in a much more expensive bracket with public health insurance. It might be a good idea to get an overview of the situation.
We have chosen the Techniker Krankenkasse as an example. The figures should be similar for other public health insurance companies.
Prices for private health insurance tend to be stable with increasing income, but their fees increase over time - this is also important to bear in mind when buying health insurance.
Working for a company
If you work for a company, getting health insurance can be a piece of cake. Just choose the public system. Half of the fee will be paid by your company and the other half will be paid by you. There will be no big cost explosion on the horizon. In addition, there are small private additional insurances, e.g. dental, TCM, etc.
Lost in Translation is happy to look at your situation and advise you on the best health insurance system for you.
